Travel Vlog 6 - Priory of St. John the Baptist, Co. Meath
🕆 Apx. 1hr 50min drive - 95 miles from Belfast.
🕆 Parking is available at a local pub just across the short bridge from the priory - take care when crossing the bridge as there is no designated pathway along the bridge.
🕆 The priory is on the banks of the Boyne, surrounded by a field, so take care if it’s been raining around the time of your visit!
🕆 Established by Simon Rochfort, Bishop of Meath, in 1202 for the Crutched Friars.
🕆 Supposedly, after the Battle of the Boyne, the priory was given to one of William’s men. On his first night there, he saw “a most horrid vision” and fled at dawn, never returning to the site again.
